Rally to Restore Sanity - Jon Stewart in DC

Date/Time:Oct 30, 2010 at 12:00 PM

Now that we are in the 2010 election year and trying to cope with being a blue island in a mostly red state, it is refreshing to have the opportunity for something really fun!  What do you think, Atlanta Area Democrats?  Glen Beck came to Washington, DC, last month to "restore honor."  Now Jon Stewart hopes to "restore sanity" when he gets to the Capital next month.

The Comedy Central host announced Thursday night that he will hold a rally at the National Mall on October 30th, capping off a week of "Daily Show" broadcasts from Washington.  Jon calls this the "million moderate march" - and boy, could our country use that right now!  Stewart described the event as a "clarion call for rationality" - in other words, an antidote to the overheated protests on the left and right.

He also promised to have pre-made signs for all the busy, non-conspiracy-minded attendees who don't have time to create their own.  One possibility: "9/11 Was An Outside Job."  He showed the banner that captures the rally theme:  "Take It Down A Notch For America."

But what's one major DC rally without a counter rally?  Beck had Al Sharpton; Stewart has his own (pretend) nemesis:  Stephen Colbert.   In an attempt to fight Stewart's "creeping reasonableness" and "restore truthiness," Colbert announced a competing event on October 30th: the "March to Keep Fear Alive."

All of this sounds like great fun and a way to make a statement about common sense for our country!  Email us at atldems@comcast.net if you would be interested in either getting a bus for our Atl Dems going to Washington for this big day, or getting together to caravan on the road trip.
